Anthony (Tony) Jefferis. Edith Weston mourns the passing of a long term resident.

Born 6th July 1932, Died 26th May 2020

Tony was born on 6th July 1932 in Bath, Somerset.

After finishing school, he worked in agriculture and attended night school to gain further qualifications to be awarded a place at the College of Estates Management in London, qualifying as a Chartered Surveyor. Returning to the West Country he worked in the District Valuers office and the Wessex Water Authority.

In 1978 he, and his now family of four children, moved to Stamford to work for what became the Environment Agency, retiring in 1998.

In 1998 he was awarded the MBE for services to the Environment and Local Government.

Tony was elected to Stamford Town Council in 1987 and served for eight years, the last year as the town's mayor.

On his retirement from Stamford Town Council he moved to Edith Weston in 1996.

He was a member of Oakham Decorative and Fine Arts Society and was leader of the Society's Church Recording Group, recording Saint Peter's in Empingham, St Lukes, Tixover, St Peter's in Whitwell and Saint Mary's in Ayston, over a period of ten years.

He was a keen gardener and rented an allotment in North Luffenham, where he spent many happy hours.

Tony passed away peacefully on 26th May 2020 after a relatively short period of ill-health.

Edith Weston Parish Council would like to offer their sincere and heartfelt condolences to Tony's son David Jefferies and his family at this sad time.
